Durbar for President Bush's Malaria team at Gomoa

Gomoa Adaa (C/R), Feb. 24, GNA-The Gomoa District Directorate of Ghana Health Service has organized a durbar at Gomoa Adaa in honour of Miss Jordin Sparks, an American idol and Ambassador of President Bush's Malaria Initiative (PMI) and a team from the United States of America who are in the country to support the initiative.

Ms. Bethanne Moskou, United States Agency for international Development (USAVID) Health Officer who led the team urged the people to regard mosquitoes, carriers of the malaria parasite, as number one enemy and find means to destroy their breeding grounds. She advised them to use insecticide treated bednets wisely to protect themselves from mosquito bite.

Nana Okutwer Bekoe the IV, Chief of Gomoa Adaa in a welcoming address outlined measures being taken by the citizens to promote hygienic environment which included a clean-up exercise on every Thursday. He expresse d gratitude to the District Health Directorate for selecting the town for the durbar. Miss Sparks presented treated bednets to over 200 children at the function.

Later the team visited Community Health and Planning Service (CHPS) compound at Gomoa Nggyiressi where they observed the operation of a child welfare clinic and demonstrated the use of the bednets. A similar durbar was held in honour of the visitors at Gomoa Tarkwa.
