Ron Strikker, Dutch Ambassador to Ghana, who stirred much controversy with his “Ghana Beyond Corruption” comment, has denied that his comment meant that the government’s “Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda be replaced with a Ghana Beyond Corruption Agenda.
In a post on the official Facebook page of the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana sighted by MyNewsGh.com, Ron Strikker has expressed regret at publications by some media houses that suggest that he was questioning government’s Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda.
“Much to my regret some media have suggested that I called for the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda to be replaced with a Ghana Beyond Corruption Agenda. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Netherlands has been and will be a staunch supporter of the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda initiated by President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017,” the statement read in part.
Mr Ron Strikker had said in a widely circulated video that the government was implementing a Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda and he wondered why it was not implementing a Ghana Beyond Corruption Agenda.
“Why not a Ghana Beyond Corruption,” he had asked.
Government through the Information Ministry had criticised him for not reading the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda document before making his pronouncements.
Mr Strikker’s subtle retraction may be as a result the backlash from government.
