Suhum(E/R), Oct. 26, GNA - Presiding Members of District Assemblies and District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Eastern Region have been asked to engage in constructive deliberations that could assist in the development of their respective areas.
Mr Michael Kofi Mensah, District Chief Executive for Suhum/Kraboa Coaltar made the call when he opened the Eastern Regional Presiding Members meeting at Suhum on Thursday.
He asked the officials to explain to assembly members, the objectives, problems and prospects of the district assembly's concept. Mr Mensah appealed to Presiding Members and assembly members to collaborate efforts in fighting against indiscipline, corruption and lawlessness.
The DCE called on Ghanaians to ensure peace and stability since according to him no country could attain meaningful development in the midst of chaos and violence.
Mr Mensah said according to the 2000 population census, the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar district had a population of about 167,000 people and that about 70 per cent of them were engaged in agriculture while 30 per cent were engaged in commercial and industrial and other activities. Mrs Beatrice B. Boateng, Presiding Member of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly called on Presiding Members and DCEs to collaborate efforts to improve the living condition of their people.
