Agona Swedru, May 31, GNA - The Agona District Branch of the Electoral Commission (EC) recorded 4,989 people during the recent revision of the voters register.
Out of the figure 4,896 were issued with photo identity cards to enable them to exercise their franchise during the impending District Level Elections scheduled for August this year. Mr Kwame Amoah, District Electoral Officer, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their cooperation, which facilitated the exercise and asked them to maintain it to ensure peace and stability.
He indicated 93 people who registered did not make themselves available for the photo taking exercise to collect their ID cards but said that provision would be made for them to avail themselves of the facility at a later date. Mr Amoah disclosed that those who were registered for the first time between the ages 18 and 19 were 4091 and those from 20 years and above were 139.
He stated that the Presbyterian Primary School at Agona Nsaba registered 261 the highest number. He stated that 148 registration officers and three officials of the Commission took part in the weeklong exercise. Mr Amoah praised the parties for their commitment, which he pointed out yielded positive results and prevented minors from the registration.
