The Supreme Court has begun hearing the application for review brought before it by Ghana’s elections management body, Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) over a High Court judgment.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Kyei Baffour on Friday, October 28, favoured the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), whose flagbearer was disqualified from contesting the 2016 elections owing to anomalies on his nomination forms.

On Wednesday, November 2, the apex court of the land ordered lawyers of the PPP to file their statement of case by midday Thursday, November 3.

This was after the Court granted the motion for abridgment of time by the EC. The EC went to court a (working) day after Justice Baffour ordered it to allow Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to make corrections to his forms and re-submit.

In its statement on Monday, October 31 announcing its decision after dissenting the judgment, the EC said presidential candidates must ensure the accuracy of information provided to public institutions and must take full responsibility thereof.

Because the Commission appealed to the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, to ensure expedition of the determination of the case, ruling is expected to be soon.
