Accra, July 11, GNA - The Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday announced that nomination of candidates for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly Elections would take place on Monday, July 24 and Tuesday July 25 at designated centres between 0900 and 12 noon and 1400 and 1700 hours each day.
A statement signed by Mr Samuel Yorke Aidoo, Director of Public Affairs, said filing of nominations for the Unit Committee Elections would be on Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28 at designated centres. The statement said the two elections would be held on Tuesday, September 12 between 0700 and 1700 hours.
The statement said nomination forms for the two elections were to be delivered in quadruplicate to Returning Officers at the respective designation centres on the days and times specified without the payment of any deposit.
Candidates would, however, provide two recent colour or black and white passport size pictures with red background.
Nomination forms of a candidate to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies must be signed and endorsed by two persons resident in the electoral areas as proposer and seconder and supported by 18 other registered voters in the electoral area.
Nomination forms of a candidate to a Unit Committee must be signed and endorsed by two persons resident in the Unit as proposer and seconder supported by eight other registered voters in the unit. The statement said nomination forms could be obtained free of charge from the Returning Officers for the respective electoral areas. It said the candidates who registered in areas other than where they wanted to contest any of the elections should apply to their respective Returning Officers immediately for their votes to be transferred to enable them to file their nomination.
