Accra, Oct. 17, GNA - The Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday rejected the nomination documents of the Flag bearer of the New Vision Party (NVP), the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and an Independent aspirant Mr Richard Nixon Tetteh for falsification of nomination documents.
The EC observed that the Flag bearer of the NVP, Prophet Daniel Nkansah of the founder of New Vision Pentecostal Church based in Accra and his running mate, Imam Husen Zakariah of Nima failed to submit a Tax Clarence certificate, a major requirement of the nomination form. The two religious leaders also falsified the details of alleged individuals who endorsed the form as it was observed that, details was in one person's hand writing.
The party also failed to sign a statutory declaration affirming their qualification to stand for and be elected for the slot being contested.
The statutory declaration is to be made before and certified by either a judge, a judicial officer, notary public, commissioner of oaths, or any person authorised by law to administer an oath. According to the Electoral laws, any person designated as Presidential Candidate or Vice-president Candidate for the election is mandated to sign the statutory declaration, which forms part of requirements on the Election 2008 Nomination Form. In related development during the presentation of the finale certificate of registration to the NVP early this year, the EC observed that the party had attempted to play with colours in the registration of its logo and official colours.
According to the EC, the interim executives, as part of the registration procedure had presented maluve, white and yellow as its official colours with a lamp in the middle. In contravention of the registration procedure, the EC noticed during final check before presentation of the Final Certificate of Registration that the party had changed the maulve to blue and the yellow to yellowish red with a lamp in the middle. The party's slogan is "eye kanea, eye nsroma," meaning "it's Light, it's the star."
The EC therefore ordered the NVP interim executives to correct the anomaly immediately to pave way for the presentation of the final certificate.
After two-and-a-half hours of waiting, the interim executives came back with the correct colours, before they were issued with the certificates.
Mr Dan Lartey's nomination was also rejected based on failure to fulfil the all conditions on the form.
Mr Tetteh failed to provide the necessary documentation and other statutory requirement.
