Accra, Feb. 10, GNA - The Electoral Commission on Monday fixed March 25 for the Navrongo Central bye-election following the declaration of the vacancy in parliament by the Clerk who duly notified the Commission.
A statement signed by Mr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, EC Chairman, said the Commission had issued a Writ of Election to the Returning Officer of the Navorongo Central Constituency.
It said the EC had also directed the sale of nomination forms. The nomination of candidates shall take place on February 27 and February 28 at the office of the Returning Officer, Navrongo.
It said every nomination must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters respectively and supported by 18 other registered voters from the constituency and the consent of the candidate must be endorsed thereon. Completed forms must be delivered to the Returning Officer with the required deposit of 200,000 cedis bank draft and two clear recent post-card photographs (bust) in colour with red background.
The statement asked that all questions relating to the election be directed to the Returning Officer, Navrongo. The by-election is as a result of the death of the Member of Parliament, Mr John Setuni Achiluwor.
Mr Achuliwor, who was also Deputy Minister of Communications and Technology, died in a motor accident on January 29, 2003.
