Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has called for a withdrawal of the new Electoral Commission logo from the system, insisting it has no value to the electoral process.
“The issue is, the introduction of a new logo has serious cost implication, unless you can demonstrate that it can improve the electoral process, it is an absolutely useless endeavour that nobody must encourage,” Pratt fumed.
The new logo, expected to be launched soon is part of a re-branding campaign of the EC ahead of the November polls.
However, the EC before it puts any defense on why it settled on changing the old logo with 7 months to the elections, most Ghanaians have raised worrying concerns with such move describing as useless and inappropriate.
Commenting on the new logo, Pratt stated on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji programme Saturday that it was unthinkable for the EC to consider it.
“I cannot believe that anybody sat down and decided to change the logo. Change the logo to what? What is wrong with the current logo? Meanwhile this thing has huge cost implication. Everything about the EC needs to be rebranded- we’re going to rebrand all their vehicles, offices, going to produce new letter-heads and so forth. What is this crazy idea coming from?
“I totally and completely disapprove this crazy idea of changing the EC symbol. The fact that the constitution envisages that we have an independent Electoral Commission, does not mean that the commission can do anything and get away with.
"After all it is the tax payers money which will be spent on this useless exercise. I think the people should sit up again and think about this whole exercise again. It’s a useless exercise that has no value, very expensive and that must be stopped as quickly as possible.”
