The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the change of logo by the Electoral Commission (EC) will do very little in boosting the confidence of Ghanaians in the Commission.
According to the party, currently, Ghanaians have a low confidence level in the EC as evidenced in a survey conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD).
The Electoral Commission on Tuesday at the launch of a five-year Development Plan introduced to the public its new logo.
The Commission has said the adoption of the new logo is the right step to redefining its operations as the election management body of the country.
“The entire new identity represents a unified common purpose and vision, and demonstrates our independence as an institution.” EC Boss Charlotte Osei explained.
However speaking to Kasapa News, the Campaign Manager of the NPP, Peter Mac-Manu stated the EC will require more than a new logo in boosting the level of confidence of Ghanaians in the commission which has dipped from 65% to 44%.
“It will take the EC’s ability to convince Ghanaians that it is indeed transparent, impartial, inclusive and autonomous to get back that lost trust. Nigerians after their election saw the citizenry’s confidence in its EC going up from 65% to a whopping 85%. They didn’t change their logo to get this high level of trust; it was rather their conduct.”
