EC relays corrected CI 73 for new constituencies before Parliament

The leadership of Parliament and the Electoral Commission have relayed the corrected version of the Constitutional Instrument 73 which is meant to give legal backing to the intended creation of 45 new constituencies ahead of the December polls.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday withdrew the CI 73 due to what was described as "serious errors".

However, the EC has officially relayed the corrected version of the document before the Subsidiary Legislation Committee of Parliament for approval and subsequent laying before the house to be debated.

The Subsidiary Legislation Committee earlier recommended the annulment of the error-riddled document.

It will now take 21 days for the document to mature for debate before the house and subsequent approval.

The C.I 73 was aimed at creating 45 new constituencies following the release of the 2010 Population and Housing Census.
