The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has dismissed claims that the EC has intended to rig the 2024 general elections in the Volta Region through ballot paper printing.
Dr. Asare emphasised that the EC is committed to ensuring the transparency and credibility of the ballot printing process, which is why they have allowed representatives from political parties to inspect the process.
Speaking in an interview with UTV, the Deputy Chairman stated that the printing firm handling the 2024 ballot papers is one of the best in the country, with whom the commission has had a long-standing working relationship.
"The company we are working with is one of the best in town. They have been around since 1998, and we've collaborated with them multiple times during elections. Sometimes their machines may malfunction, but claims that the EC is attempting to rig the elections in the Volta Region are baseless," he said.
Dr. Asare stressed that the EC would never engage in actions that would undermine its integrity.
"Our reputation is on the line, and it would be an embarrassment for us to send faulty ballots to any region to favor a particular party. That’s why we invited party representatives to the printing house to observe the process and clear any doubts."
The Electoral Commission recently invited representatives from all political parties to inspect the ballot printing process ahead of the December 7, 2024 elections.
Despite allegations by the National Democratic Congress of an election-rigging plot, the EC has strongly rejected the claims.
