The Electoral Commission (EC) has entreated journalists to assist in assuring that citizens who do not have their voters’ ID card take part in the Limited Voter’s Registration exercise to be held by the Commission.

The EC announced the commencement of a revision of the voter’s register throughout the country, as required by law, from September 16 to September 25, 2018.

The law requires that on an annual basis, the commission revise the voters’ register by undertaking a limited voter registration exercise.

The exercise, which will be from 6AM to 7PM will be implemented in two phases.

The first phase is to give opportunity to persons, who are 18 years and above, who for one reason or the other could not register during the previous registrations in 2012, 2014, and 2016 to register.

An exhibition of the voter register to permit registered individuals to verify their data in terms of name, age, polling station, and polling code will be the process for the phase two.

Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, highlighting the vital role the media plays in electoral processes, urged reporters to reiterate the news to encourage Ghanaians who are without IDs register for their cards.

She also stated that her outfit expects reporters to be neutral in the provision of information to the public since citizens are the crucial players in elections and must not be misled.
