It has emerged that the regional radio broadcaster of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) – Sunrise FM in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua owes the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) some GHC300,000

Though some other public institutions like the Ghana Police Service, Koforidua Polytechnic, Ghana Water Company Limited, among others, also owe ECG some huge sums, the Sunrise FM's debt tops the list.

As a result of their indebtedness, power supply was disconnected to the station and they have not been on the air waves for about one month, only to resume transmission last week even though the bill is yet to be settled.

A source within the radio station told Brytfmonline.com that due to the huge amount of electricity bill owed, the station was not running its full programs in order not to incur any further debts.

When the regional director of ECG was contacted by Brytfmonline.com reporter, he confirmed the huge sum of money owed by the radio station and other public institutions within the New Juaben Municipality.

It was also gathered that ECG as part of strategies to recover its debts would soon resort to the law courts.

Meanwhile, a source close to the radio station revealed that authorities of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in Accra have promised to settle the debt but are yet to approach the Electricity Company of Ghana to that effect.
