President of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Senior Staff Association, Michael Boadu, and General Secretary of the Public Utilities Workers Union, Bondzie Quaye, have warned the Energy Minister from interfering in internal disciplinary issues of the company.
In a strongly worded letter intercepted by Joy News, the ECG staff and the Public Utilities Workers Union said they are not happy with the subtle attempts by the Energy Minister, Emmanuel Kofi Buah, to interfere in internal affairs of ECG.
In the letter, addressed to the Minister and copied to the Chief of Staff, the National Security Coordinator and the board of ECG, the workers accused the energy minister of forcing the reinstatement of the dismissed Director of Manpower Development at the company, Kofi Kukubor, on them.
The letter explained that after Mr. Kukubor’s appointment was allegedly terminated for deceit and misconduct, the Energy Minister has written to the Managing Director of ECG, directing that Mr. Kukubor be reinstated.
According to the letter, Mr. Buah has also asked the board to set up a committee to re-investigate him.
The Senior Staff Association in a five-point resolution is asking the Minister to immediately withdraw the letter demanding Mr. Kukubor to be reinstated.
According to them, the instruction to constitute another committee to re-investigate the former director could create industrial tension in the company.
They have however urged Mr. Kukubor to go to court, the Labor Commission or the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRA) to seek redress.
