The Chairperson of the ECOWAS Observer Mission, Sahle-Work Zewde, has commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, for graciously accepting the outcome of the 2024 general election.
Speaking during a news briefing with the media, the Observer Mission acknowledged Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to Ghana’s democratic values.
Dr. Bawumia’s acceptance of the election results was described as a demonstration of strong leadership and patriotism. He further congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his victory, showcasing a spirit of unity and respect for the democratic process.
In her remarks, Sahle-Work Zewde emphasized that Ghana continues to set an example of democracy on the African continent, upholding the principles established by its forefathers.
She noted that the peaceful conduct of the election, particularly in rural areas, and the effective organization of polling stations were key factors in ensuring the success of the process.
The African Union Election Observation Mission also praised Dr. Bawumia for his statesmanship, highlighting his efforts to put the interests of the nation and its people above all else.
