EDAIF donates towards farmer’s day

The Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF) on Wednesday donated a tractor and accessories worth Ghc142,500.00 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in support of the farmers day awards.

The donation was made to solely award the 2nd National Best Farmer to strengthen his/her capacity to meet the global standard of farming.

Mr Abdul Baaki Kadir, Agricultural Manager of EDAIF, who made the presentation on behalf of the company, said farmers play a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country, hence the need to recognise their works.

Mr Kadir said EDAIF as a corporate institution and a partner in the agricultural sector would continue to support farmers to boost their effort in learning new and modernised way of farming.

He, however, encouraged farmers in the agricultural and agro processing sector to access the EDAIF credit facility through designated financial institutions across the country.

He said EDAIF credit facility has been amended to include the provision of financial resources for the development and promotion of agriculture relating to agro-processing industry.

Mr Kadir said the theme for the 29th edition of the celebration: “Reducing Post-Harvest Losses for Sustainable food security and Nutrition” is timely since it would enable professionals in the industry address the issue of post-harvest losses of staple foods particularly grains and cassava.

Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, Deputy Minister and Chairman of the Farmers Day Planning Committee thanked EDAIF for the donation, adding that, it would go a long way in helping award winning farmers in their various categories.
