EDITORIAL: Some Positive Signs

This week and the last, many Accra residents have been talking of their good fortune. It has nothing to do with the lotteries and everything to do with electric power.

Whether by design or by accident, the load shedding exercise seems to have been relaxed in many places with some areas enjoying power continuously for 3 to 4 days with only minor interruptions.

It does not mean that the load shedding is over but at least, it shows that the Akosombo Dam and the other initiatives that have been put in place are heading in the right direction.

We are still worried that there is no public education on conservation. Both the VRA and ECG have made it clear that conservation would help release several megawatts of power to boost the entire system.

So what's holding them back from committing to a major public education on conservation? And while we are at it, we want to know: Where are the energy saving lights?!
