EDITORIAL: Too Many Ministers

Ghana has too many parasites (ministers) feeding on the state. President Kufuor should cut down his staff drastically to save the nation from unnecessary expenses. This is a suggestion

The following ministries should remain as is

  • Ministry of Agriculture
  • Ministry of Defence
  • Ministry of Justice
  • Ministry of Finance & Economic Planning
  • Ministry of Energy
  • Ministry of Interior
  • Ministry of Education
The following Ministries should be merged, i.e responsibilities on the right should be handled by the ministries on the left.
  • Ministry of Health = Health & Environment
  • Ministry of Commerce = Trade, Industry & PSI + Private Sector Development + NEPAD
  • Ministry of Transport = Ports, Harbors and Railways + Roads, Highways & Transport
  • Ministry of Labor = Employment + Work + Manpower Development
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs = Foreign Affairs + Regional Cooperation + Tourism
  • Ministry of ICT = Communications & Technology + Information + Science
  • Ministry of Natural Resources = Mines + Lands & Forestry
  • Ministry of Human "Services" = Women & Children Affairs & Housing & Youth
The following ministries should be abolished
  • Local Government & Rural Dev?t: Regional Ministers & 100s of DCEs are responsible for this
  • Parliamentary Affairs: No need. Speaker can be the bridge between parliament & the executive
  • Modernization of the Capital: We already have a regional minister for Greater Accra, an Accra Major and several DCEs in Accra
  • Senior Ministry: It?s self-evident we don't need this
  • Deputy Ministers: They are simply a waste of space
  • Ministers of state: No need
  • "Special Assistants": No Need
