EDITORIAL: Too Many Ministers

Ghana has too many parasites (ministers) feeding on the state. President Kufuor should cut down his staff drastically to save the nation from unnecessary expenses. This is a suggestion

The following ministries should remain as is

Ministry of Agriculture
Ministry of Defence
Ministry of Justice
Ministry of Finance & Economic Planning
Ministry of Energy
Ministry of Interior
Ministry of Education

The following Ministries should be merged, i.e responsibilities on the right should be handled by the ministries on the left.

Ministry of Health = Health & Environment
Ministry of Commerce = Trade, Industry & PSI + Private Sector Development + NEPAD
Ministry of Transport = Ports, Harbors and Railways + Roads, Highways & Transport
Ministry of Labor = Employment + Work + Manpower Development
Ministry of Foreign Affairs = Foreign Affairs + Regional Cooperation + Tourism
Ministry of ICT = Communications & Technology + Information + Science
Ministry of Natural Resources = Mines + Lands & Forestry
Ministry of Human "Services" = Women & Children Affairs & Housing & Youth

The following ministries should be abolished

Local Government & Rural Dev?t: Regional Ministers & 100s of DCEs are responsible for this
Parliamentary Affairs: No need. Speaker can be the bridge between parliament & the executive
Modernization of the Capital: We already have a regional minister for Greater Accra, an Accra Major and several DCEs in Accra
Senior Ministry: It?s self-evident we don't need this
Deputy Ministers: They are simply a waste of space
Ministers of state: No need
"Special Assistants": No Need
