EGLE Appeals To Rawlings/NDC

The EGLE party has called on former President Jerry John Rawlings and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to tred cautiously on the stormy waters of party in opposition with limited resources to foster unity both within the party and the country.

"We call on the leadership of the NDC to show maturity, forbearance, tolerance and magnanimity to all members, especially those with divergent views in the party," Ms Cecilia Akueter, EGLE National Women Organizer stated in an interview in Accra.

She appealed to Ex-President Rawlings to live above reproach and pettiness and develop a big heart to all, especially members of the party irrespective of what might have happened in the past. " We want to see him as a father working from behind to help the children achieve the highest stage in life."

Ms Akueter sounding more like reconciling the EGLE/NDC alliance, said the rank and file of the once great party are confused and reluctant to contribute meaningfully to the development of the party mainly due to the protracted dispute between the founder and the national chairman Dr Obed Yao Asamoah.

"As members of the Progressive Alliance, we appeal to the two parties to halt back biting and the undermining currently going on and use internal mechanisms for conflict resolution to address these differences." She also appealed to Professor John Evans Attah Mills the Flag bearer to show maturity and openness to all members. "He should be the unifying factor in the party now or forget about wining power in the 2004 general elections''.

According to Ms Akueter, "the NDC cannot win power without the total contribution of all its members, especially Dr Asamoah and other members from the Dr Kwesi Botchwey camp. We are still waiting to see how the two would work together and demonstrate to the rank and file to join forces for the big battle in 2004."

The EGLE National Women Organiser also appealed to Dr Asamoah to accept the olive branch offered to him and join the folks in moving the party forward. She warned the leadership that the entire country would not forgive them if they failed to iron out their difference and thereby jeopardize the chance of the wining back power in 2004 because according to her, it could derail the democratic process in the country.
