The Naional Youth Organising Commission (NYOC) has held a day's seminar on Population Growth and Development here.
It was organised by the Environmental Population Club (ENVIROPOP), in collaboration with the NYOC, Ghana Library Board, Environmental Protection Agency and the Upper East regioanl Branch of the Environmental Club of university student.
Addressing the seminar,Mr James D. Abang-gos, Upper East regional Coordinator of he NYOC, suggested the settitng up of environmental clubs in all communities to check the threat of environmental degradation
He said heads of educational institutions should place a premium on the foramtion of such clubs to inculate into the youth , the importance of protecting the environment
Mr. Abang-go called for the intensification of tree planting by existing to check wind storms and erosion.
Mr. Donald Adabre, Deputy Upper East regional Minster of Food and Agriculture, who presided,called for a concerted efforts by all in the fight against environmental degradation
Mr Nicholas Apokerah, president of EVIROPOP, called for intensive education to re-orient the people's perception towards the environment
Others speakers in cluded Miss Alice Awuni of 31st December Women's Movement and Mr. Sam Yeboah of the EPA.
