EOCO picks up NPP's John Kumah

John Kumah, a member of the NPP Communication Team has been picked up by officials of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

Reasons for his arrest are unknown but it is understood that he was picked up on Thursday afternoon.

The Young Patriots, a youth wing of the NPP have released a statement condemning the arrest of their colleague.

Below is the full statement by the Young Patriots

JOHN KUMAH ARRESTED, YOUNG PATRIOTS READY FOR THE FIGHT

Young patriots less than 24 hours after stating President Mahama and the NDC are not committed to the Kumasi peace pact has had Mr John Kumah, the spokesperson of the group arrested barely a few hours after Mr Richard Nyamah had a phase off with Felix Kwakye Ofosu over the properties the members of the NDC are grabbing.

The young patriots have been at the helm revealing the rigging machine of the NDC which has been put in motion. It is getting clear by the day that the government is uncomfortable with the revelations and is bent on silencing members of the group.

As at yesterday 11am, a member of the group had a phone call from the police headquarters that there was ballot stuffing of President Mahama going on at the NADMO office at Kanda. This was put out in the media as a way of making the government aware eyes are on them. Young patriots have also variously put out the rigging strategy of the government including the use of mowags which will have ballot papers stuffed in them and exchanged at strong holds of the NPP. Members of the group have known no peace since putting out information on the rigging tactics of the government. There have been several threats to members of the group through phone calls and attempts run into their vehicles.

The subsequent arrest of John Kumah under the pretext of trying him for a trumped up charge will not make any member of the young patriots submit to the intimidation of the government. John Kumah’s arrest will rather serve as inspiration to all young patriots’ country wide and inspire us to protect our votes and the ballot to ensure our future and destiny is not snatched from our hands.

We wish to use this opportunity to ask all well meaning Ghanaians to first and foremost ask Col Gbevlo-Lartey to withdraw NADMO as part of the election task force. NADMO is not part of the security apparatus of the nation and their inclusion is only to assist the government rig the election. If government insists in using NADMO in the operation, we will have no choice but resist them when they attempt any of their shenanigans on voting day.

Secondly and most importantly, who ever gave the order that Mr John Kumah should be arrested should unconditionally have him released or else the young patriots will use all legal means available to ensure same.

Thank you very much and God bless our homeland Ghana.

Richard Nyamah
