Early childhood development must focus on play related activities-GNCC

Ho Dec. 18, GNA - Mr Edwin Gamadeku, the Volta Regional Director of the Ghana National Commission on Children (GNCC) has called for play-related activities in early childhood development in schools instead of rigid learning. The play-related activities would make children learn more while enjoying themselves he said. He made the call at a one-day workshop organized by the Volta Regional office of the Ghana National Commission on Children on Thursday in Ho. He said children between zero and four years need extra care because those were delicate years in which their brains develop.

Mr Gamadeku called on opinion leaders and religious leaders to step up education against child trafficking and child labour in order to secure the welfare and development of children. Participants at the workshop observed that children who become parents needed special attention because of the negative effects this was having on those juvenile parents and their children. They said since parents and teachers were key stakeholders in the development of the child, constant sensitization was needed for early childhood development.
