Easter celebrant dies in pool

In the midst of the usual outdoor celebrations to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, a man believed to be in his thirties has drowned at the Lloyds Beach Resort at Kokrobite in Accra.

Ultimate Radio’s Nana Oye Diabene, who witnessed the incident at the beach, reported that the man visited the pool Sunday afternoon with his wife and children to participate in a family day out event.

Narrating the sad incident, she reported that, “just about 3:00pm, some people begun screaming at the poolside. We got there and we realized that the man had drowned and had been in the pool for several minutes. When they brought him out, he had already passed out. They tried to resuscitate him to get the water and food out of him, but he didn’t open his eyes”.

She reports that, after efforts to resuscitate him had failed, the man was rushed to the nearby Kokrobite Clinic and quickly referred to the Malam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An eyewitness who helped pull the man out of the water identified him as Mallen, and confirmed that he was a resident of North Kaneshie where he lived with his wife and two children.

“I know most of his friends and they came here in a group. At first, I thought it was a kid, but after we pulled him out, I realized it was Mallen. It is really a sad day for us. One of his children is not even one year old and the other is around four years old,” he lamented.”
