Eastern Region PNC to kick against unilateral electoral alliance

Koforidua, May 13, GNA- The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the People's National Convention (PNC), has threatened legal action against its national executives if they enter electoral alliance with other parties without reference to the regional executives as stipulated in PNC constitution.

The secretariat expressed worry about moves by the party to enter into alliance with the Convention People's Party (CPP) without following laid down procedures. These were contained in a press release signed by Mr Yakubu Salifu, regional secretary of the party, and copied to the media in Koforidua on Tuesday.

It noted that although PNC adherents in the region welcome the move, they would nonetheless, "embark on legal action to fight for our right." "We want to know who is doing the talking on our behalf and how they were selected and above all why we were not consulted on this matter," the statement queried. The statement, however, explained that "if the right procedure is adopted, we will be willing to support the outcome of the decision and thereby unite our two parties."

It said the Secretariat is therefore demanding the National Executives of the PNC to form an electoral college for the purposes of taking such a decision.

Dilating on the release, Mr Salifu told Ghana News Agency that the regional secretariat was unhappy with the developments because there is the feeling that regional executives were being left out of the talks in violation of the party's constitution. He said the secretariat would lose its public acceptance if its' leaders were allowed to commit "democratic errors."
