Dr. Sylvia Anie, a Senior Public Health Consultant on Thursday entreated Ghanaians not to be in a state of denial about the existence of the Ebola disease but rather take precautionary measures to avoid infections.
She added that boosting ones immune systems with the right kind of nutrition, exercise and avoiding excessive alcohol could be a good defense to the Ebola virus.
Dr. Anie at a lecture on the topic “Ebola: Ebola What More there is to Know” organized by the Western Region Old Vandels Association at Takoradi said, “let accept the fact and be alert to respond to emergencies”.
She revealed that the World Health Organisation has estimated over one million people were likely to be infected, adding that the rate of infections were truly exponential.
The WHO has declare the current situation as an international emergency, adding that, a current report by the Oxford University has mapped out 15 countries including Ghana, as those most at risk of an Ebola break out in West, Central and East Africa.
She said burial ceremonies where mourners had direct contact with the dead must also be curtail or avoided to stop the spread of the disease adding, “It is imperative that all citizens understand and bear in mind the signs and symptoms of the Ebola virus and actively seek for treatment.
