Bismark Boateng, the Ayawaso Central Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the country’s current economic woes are not the result of poor governance.

Boateng says that despite the challenges confronting the country, this administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made significant gains across sectors of the economic and social lives of Ghanaians.

He opined that if the country had experienced bad governance as alleged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), there would have been a shortage of essential commodities.

He stated that this government, despite the economic crisis, has made significant progress, with macroeconomic fundamentals now pointing in the right direction.

He said the country has maintained fiscal discipline and managed the economy far better than the former NDC administration.

Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he noted that despite the hardship, President Akufo-Addo has constructed hospitals in Akontombra, Beposo, Elubo, Mpohoa, Nsuaem, Wasa Dunkwa, Somanya, and Tolon.

"Despite all the hardship, he has constructed 37 hospitals. Despite all the hardship, he has completed Phase II of the University of Ghana Medical Hospital. Despite the hardship, the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital Phase III project has been completed.

"After all the hardship, the management of the Aburi Hospital has been addressed, and the Atebubu and Kpandai Hospitals have been completed. Despite our hardship, we have not witnessed any shortage of fuel.

"President Akufo-Addo has ensured that we have not experienced a shortage of any basic needs. We have fuel and food in abundance. The free SHS is being implemented even in the face of the perceived hardship; we still have doctors and other medical practitioners working.

"If it were about bad governance, we would not have been able to pay teacher and nursing training allowances. Even in the face of the crisis, the government is about to hire 15,000 nurses. We have to commend President Akufo-Addo because he has done extremely well.”
