Vice President and Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's message of being a driver's mate for 7 years, and pleading for an opportunity to be handed the steering wheel to become the main driver, seems to have resonated across the country.

During his campaign tour of the Oti Region yesterday, the jubilant residents of the regional capital, Dambai, welcomed and greeted the NPP Flagbearer with signs of two hands controlling a steering wheel.

Dr. Bawumia's engagements in the Oti Region took him to various places, where he met with the Clergy, Imams, Zongo Chiefs, the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, and the youth. He also embarked on house-to-house and street campaigns.

As many residents cheered him on at different locations, a significant number were seen with two hands up, depicting a driver controlling a steering wheel, and chants of "yɛ de steer no ama wo," which means "we have given you the steering wheel," in response to Bawumia's famous remarks.

As the gesture became widespread, especially on the streets, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the applause and also responded with two hands depicting a driver controlling a steering wheel.

In one instance, one of the ecstatic youths displaying the "give me the steer" sign actually approached Dr. Bawumia and handed him a round cardboard cutout, representing a steering wheel.

Dr. Bawumia received the cardboard in appreciation and mimicked the gesture himself, much to the delight of the onlookers.

Interestingly, as the bus carrying Dr. Bawumia navigated through Dambai township, many onlookers were seen performing the "steering-controlling" sign as they cheered and waved at the Vice President.
