Editorial: Mills Must Stop Wasting Our Scarce Resources

The New Free Press is deeply shocked at the way politicians in Ghana abuse the good nature of Ghanaians and abuse their office when elected or appointed. Today it is fashionable for Presidents to just board foreign airlines at huge cost and travel to foreign countries just to have a thermometer stuck in their mouth or have their blood pressure checked. Meanwhile we are told that our hospitals are been renovated and improved. Why would President Mills travel to a hospital in the United states and spend foreign exchange to improve the US economy when he can do the same check up in Ghana?

We have checked the records and noticed that Presidents Nkrumah, General Ankrah,Prime Minister Busia, General Kutu Acheampong, General Akuffo, Hilla Limann ,Jerry Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor did not go on routine medical check ups outside Ghana when they were in office. Seven weeks ago former President Kufuor carried out surgery at the Korle Bu teaching hospital and praised the professionalism of our doctors. We send students to train as doctors and surgeons at huge cost to countries like Cuba, Russia, UK USA etc and when they come to Ghana, we don’t use them or equip our hospitals with the same modern facilities so they can perform. We rather spend money on expensive tickets and go to foreign countries on holidays and check ups. What a disgrace!

President Mills constant cry for attention and sympathy is wearing thin and we at the New Free Press are tired of it. Governance is a serious business and at this rate, even Somalia without a government is better run than Ghana. Perhaps the cry for change that some sections of the Ghanaian public are calling for is justified.
