The ‘2018 African Quality Awards’ ceremony had been held in Kumasi, with a call on corporate organizations and individuals to partner government to improve infrastructure in the country’s educational institutions.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, said the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Policy had increased enrolment in schools, particularly at the second-cycle level.
This had brought additional responsibility on the Government in respect of the provision of adequate classrooms, libraries, science laboratories and other facilities to enhance quality education delivery for the country’s human resource development.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, in a speech read on his behalf, said meeting the educational goals of the nation was a shared responsibility.
The programme, organized by Micjoy Advertising, an advertising firm, had in all 13 individuals and organizations, including the Education Minister, honoured for their meritorious services and contributions to the development of their chosen fields of endeavour.
They were drawn from the security, education, health, creative arts and chieftaincy sectors, and the awardees were presented with diamond plaques, certificates and citations.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Deputy Education Minister, who was also honoured, received the award on behalf of Dr. Opoku Prempeh.
Other personalities honoured included Commissioner of Police (COP) Ken Yeboah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Mr. Michael Nsowah, Chairman of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council and Nana Agyei Panin, Chief of Deduako in the Bosomtwe District.
Master Edward Gyampana, a creative artist, as well as Mr. Benjamin Baah, Headmaster of Konongo-Odumase SHS, Dr. Steve Ogbordjor, Chief Executive Officer of the First Klass Hospital and Mr. William Asante Bediako, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie-West, were also awarded.
Organizations which were presented with awards included First Trust Savings and Loans Limited and the Jackson Foundation, a civil society organization.
Mr. Michael Ampong, Founding President of Micjoy Advertising, said they were appreciative of the hard work exhibited by the awardees in their respective fields of endeavour to advance the cause of mankind.
The company, he said, would continue to motivate Ghanaian professionals and deserving institutions, whose efforts had ensured sustainable development of the country.
