Mankessim (Central Region), 4 Nov. Mr. Solomon K Obeng, director-general of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has said the emphasis on technical and vocational skills under the educational reforms is to equip the youth with employable skills. This is contained in an address read for him at the first speech and prize-giving day of Mankessim secondary technical school at Mankessim at the weekend. Mr. Obeng said for education to be useful in today's scientific and technological world, it must be able to teach skills beside imparting values and training the mind. The director-general said the government is laying emphasis on the teaching of science and technology-related skills because as a developing country, Ghana must tap its rich natural resources. He commended the school for offering skills needed for the country's development and industrialisation to its students.
