Educational Development and Practice Journal launched

Cape Coast, Dec. 2, GNA - The Faculty of Education of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Wednesday, launched the Journal of Educational Development and Practice (JED-P), at Cape Coast. Mr Joseph Aboagye, Director of the Institute of Education, UCC, tracing the history of the journal said it was first published in 1990 with the second edition in 1994 and the third in 1998.

He said it was to provide a forum for scholars and teachers of the University to discuss issues in education theory, research and policy. Mr Aboagye said the JED-P would broaden its outlook to accommodate views and contributions from other disciplines outside education. Professor James Opare, Dean of the Faculty of Education, said the delay in the re-launch was due to the slow inflow of articles and expressed the hope that good quality articles would be submitted for publication.

He said since UCC was known for its excellence in teaching, it was expected that contributions would come from a cross-section of the University.

Prof Opare expressed the hope that the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other institutions in the education sector would subscribe and publish in the journal.

Professor Kobina Yankson, Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC, pointed out that universities were normally evaluated on their research and teaching outputs, which were disseminated through journals.

He commended the Faculty for re-introducing the journal and called on the Editorial Board to work hard to be confident to circulate it all over the country and abroad to other universities.

The Reverend Canon Dawson of the UCC who launched the journal expressed the hope that all efforts would be made "this time around" by the Faculty to sustain it.

The first copy was auctioned for 500,000 cedis, while the second and third copies were sold for 350,000 cedis.

Prof Yankson, Prof Opare and Mr Aboagye bought the first, second and third copies respectively.

The fourth and fifth copies were sold at 320,000 cedis to Professor Awusabu Asare, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Professor Dominic Agyemang, also of UCC.
