Educationist Calls For High Morals In Schools

Bolgatanga, (Upper East) 7 Oct.,

The General Manager of the Methodist Education Unit, the Reverend John Bassaw, has called on teachers to intensify their teaching of morals in schools because education without good morals is incomplete. He said "teach a child the way he should live and when he grows he would not depart from it". Rev. Bassaw said this when he addressed teachers of the Ebenezer Methodist Church school in Bolgatanga during a visit. The general manager said if teachers did their work well, they would begin receiving their rewards on earth on their way to heaven. He urged the teachers to take advantage of the distance education programme that would soon be introduced to improve upon their performances. He prayed that teachers would see the children they teach as their own by being role models for them to emulate. He promised the school 100,000 cedis, exercise books and other school materials worth over one million cedis. The regional manager for the northern sector, Rev. Frank Anderson, appealed to the teachers to talk more about the importance of female education in their communities. He commended the teachers for their hard work which enabled the school to score 100 per cent passes at the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) last year. Madam Regina Attiah, headmistress of the school, said the school lacked, among others, furniture for both teachers and pupils, and security. She said the school buildings is leaking and appealed for additional structures to accommodate the pupils.
