Winneba, Aug. 27, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr Nii Naamo-Ale, has assured fishermen that the government would provide them with logistics, support and protection to promote the fishing industry. He said proposals had been submitted to parliament and among them were measures to combat the use of light and other unapproved methods of fishing.
The minister said this at the inauguration of the Winneba Beach Landing Committee in Winneba on Tuesday. The seven-member committee, headed by Apofohene Neenyi Muni Kwaako IV and Mr Godfred K. Nkrumah as Secretary, would be responsible for the sale of pre-mix petrol to fishermen in the area. Mr Naamo/Ale assured the fishermen that plans were underway to grant them credit facilities to buy outboard motors and other fishing materials.
The Central Regional Chairman of pre-mix fuel committee, Mr Kwaku Nico, swore the members into office and advised them to avoid cheating. Neenyi Kwaako promised to do clean and good administration to enhance the fishing industry.
