The Patriotic Citizens of Kumasi (PSK), a civil society group in Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi has vowed to go ahead with their proposed protest demonstration against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what they described as insensitivity on the pre-electoral promises made to the people of the region by the ruling party.
Speaking in an interview with Heritage, Mr. Kwame Adinkra, secretary of the patriotic citizens hinted that so far more than 5,600 people have registered to take part in the demonstration slated for June 10 2005. he said the group has notified the police and that all is set for the demonstration to be staged in Kumasi. Adinkra stressed that the decision to demonstrate on the unfulfilled promises is not in the interest of any political party but in the interest of the region.
Asked whether the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was notified about the intentions since he is the King of Asanteman, he said ?we don't want to involve him in this.' Contrary to the expectation of many that the NPP government would have reacted swiftly to the demands of the patriotic citizens of Kumasi, the Information Minister, Mr. Dan Botwe has dismissed the group's demands saying that the demonstration will not in any away affect the popularity of the party in the region.
