Accra, Aug. 7 GNA - Mr Iddrisu Egala, Chartered Accountant, on Thursday said the Convention People's Party (CPP) under his chairmanship would build a credible and independent party with viable organizational structures and a distinct social philosophy for electoral determination by the people of Ghana.
"My candidature is the new dawn in the re-organization of the CPP and the building of a strong and self-sustaining party organizational structures from the polling station level to the national level." Mr Egala, who is the son of the late Alhaji Moro Egala, founder of the Peoples National Party (PNP), an offshoot of the CPP tradition stated this when he announced his candidature to contest the Chairmanship of the CPP at a press conference in Accra.
He said the first priority of the party would be to ensure that all economic decisions were taken with the sole aim of meeting the aspirations and needs of Ghanaians.
Mr Egala noted that the party would devolve and dwell on policy issues adding; "it will work to avoid personality conflicts, self-righteousness, egoism and the war of words in the media". He said his leadership would foster greater discipline and unity within the party saying; "I consider these as the pillars of the electoral strength of the party".
Mr Egala said the party had for sometime been facing some difficulties, but he promised that they would overcome the obstacles under his chairmanship.
"Diverse opinions can be found in every party and are not necessarily divisive."
He said he was offering himself as a "new reign" of a moderating factor that would reconcile and unite the various positions within the party.
He said he endorsed the effort of party members, who were concerned about the current representation in Parliament and were committed to increasing this representation as an independent political party so as to make CPP take its rightful place in contemporary Ghanaian politics. Mr Egala noted that the doors were still open for merger with other Nkrumaist parties.
