The Ejisu-Juaben Municipality recorded a total of 38 fire disasters, last year, Assistant Divisional Officer One (ADO 1), Anthony Appiah, the acting Municipal Fire Officer, has announced.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that domestic fire outbreaks topped the cases seen during the period - 20 cases, and said these were caused mainly by gas cylinder explosions.
He gave the breakdown of the other fires as follows: five cases each of vehicular and commercial, bush fires – six, and electrical – two.
ADO 1 Appiah called for the people to heed safety education and to avoid any reckless handling of naked fire, particularly at this time of the year – dry season.
He again reminded everybody to make sure that all electrical gadgets were switched off and the plugs removed from the sockets, before they left their homes.
He spoke of intensification of fire prevention education by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to help significantly reduce fire disasters in the municipality.
He applauded people in the area for the cooperation and strong support they had been giving to firefighters in times of fire emergency.
