The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejura Sekyeredumasi, Bawa Braimah has come to the aid of pupils of Apaaso M/A primary by donating 120 dual desks to the school.
The donation was to create a conducive environment for the pupils to be able study well and improve their academic performance.
Before the donation, pupils were seen either sitting on benches or lying on the floor to study and write notes, a situation teachers said affected their academic performance.
“This has been the norm for many years,” one of the teachers, Konlan Johnson Kpiirka explained. According to him, authorities had no choice but to allow pupils endure such condition.
Head Teacher of the school, Kwakwo Anomah Francis narrated same story adding they were not happy about the situation even though they couldn't do anything about it "but the plight of the pupils has come to an end”.
20,000 pieces of exercise books were also donated to schools in the municipality and all basic schools are expected to have their share as part efforts to reduce the burden on parents.
Making the symbolic presentation at the Municipal Education Office, Mr Bawa said the donation was in line with his policy to ensure good quality education delivery by making it affordable to the ordinary Ghanaian.
The former Municipal Chief Executive stated that the donation also formed part of his promise to change stories of poor students in the educational sector.
“It is my pleasure to change the narrative. I want to see students feel better in the constituency.” He said.
For the Member of Parliament, government alone cannot solve challenges in the educational sector and that, all stakeholders should come on board to bring hope to many children.
The Deputy Director of Education, Beatrice Kyerewaah who received the books on behalf of the schools, thanked the MP for the gesture and appealed to the students to learn to be responsible citizens in future.
