Election 2016: Mahama heads NDC Political Committee

President John Dramani Mahama and his Vice Kwesi Amissah-Arthur have been named as leaders of the Political Committee of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

Other members of the committee include the party’s Chairman, Kofi Portuphy, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, former Chairman, Kwabena Adjei, and Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin.

The Committee which was inaugurated on Wednesday is mandated to handle issues of political nature that cut across every sphere of the country.

President Mahama administered the oath of office to the new committee members and called on them to discharge their duties appropriately.

“The work of committees can be boring but they are the work that makes a difference between a successful party and an unsuccessful party,” he said.

The party has in two days inaugurated five different committees - the Economic Committee, Complaints Committee, Legal Committee, the Political Committee and Disciplinary Committee.

Tuesday’s inauguration was bedeviled with controversy as the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbui Afede, who was announced as a member of the Economic Committee, declined knowledge of his nomination.

The party, through a letter, has since issued an apology.

General Secretary Nketia also charged the committee members to be effective in doing what he terms “the actual work in terms of the day to day strategies, policy formulations” for the party.
