Officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend the collation of results in the Ejura Sekyeredumase Constituency, alleging foul play. They are demanding a total recount of ballot papers from all 177 polling centers.

Speaking to the media at the collation center in Ejura Sekyeredumase, NPP officials claimed that the voting process was riddled with errors. They noted that the EC had acknowledged some of these mistakes, leading the party to reject the current results.

“The elections in Ejura, which were supposed to be free and fair, have been fraught with many errors, some of which the EC has admitted. They have acknowledged making significant mistakes, and these errors undermine the integrity of the elections. Because of this, the NPP is unable to accept the results in Ejura,” a party official stated.

He added, “We have petitioned the Electoral Commission through our legal team from Kumasi. We are completely rejecting the results of Ejura unless a recount is conducted for all polling stations.”

The NPP also claimed to have observed several irregularities during the voting process, which they believe compromised the results.

“Apart from the clerical errors we identified, there were incidents of violence and ballot snatching in areas like Sekyeredumase and Seko—both NPP strongholds. It took the intervention of the military to recover some of the ballot boxes. Because of this, we cannot accept the contents of these ballot boxes, as we believe they have been tampered with,” he added.

The 2024 elections were conducted across 276 constituencies nationwide and were largely peaceful. However, isolated incidents of violence were reported, including the confirmation of two deaths in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region and the Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region.

The Electoral Commission has urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as it works to fulfill its mandate of delivering a credible election.
