Election petition not affecting Akufo-Addo’s health – Sir John

The General Secretary of Ghana’s biggest opposition party has denied rumours that his Party’s 2012 Presidential Candidate is suffering ill health due to the stress of the ongoing election petition hearing.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo flew out to the United Kingdom last week for medical checkup.

His Press Secretary, Mr. Herbert Krapa, in a very short press statement, said on Tuesday June 4, 2013 that the former Flagbearer was going for “scheduled engagements including his regular medical checkup”.

The statement came on the heels of a publication by the Herald Newspaper which claimed that Nana Akufo-Addo suffered a heart attack a few days earlier and had to be rushed, first to the Akai House Clinic and later referred to the Cardio Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment.

There have also been speculations on social media that the election results challenge case, of which Nana Akufo-Addo is the First Petitioner, is starting to have a telling toll on his health.

However, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has told XYZ News: “It cannot be correct; in fact during the elections, even before the elections, he used to have some checkups with his daughters, which is right that our leaders should have regular checkups from their medical practitioners”.

“…I spoke with him this morning and he’s doing fine, he’s ok and should be back sometime this week”.
