Election08: CPP calls for vigilance & justice

Accra, January 2, GNA - The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Wednesday appealed to all political parties to abide by the electoral rules of vigilance, justice and fair play in Elections 2008. "We must not be taken in by those who pay lip-service to the electoral process, we must watch out carefully for anti-electoral behaviour, whether it takes the form of outright deception or sabotage," Mr James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr., CPP National Youth Organizer stated in a statement in Accra.

The statement tagged; "The Youth League of CPP's New Year message," tasked the Youth to rise-up and demonstrate their loyalty and patriotism for the service of mother Ghana and Africa, stressing that they had vital roles to play for the reconstruction and development of the nation and the continent.

He noted that the future of the nation demanded that the youth fashioned their lives with a distinct objective; "to love Ghana and make her great and proud at all times in all things.

"To work towards the attainment of a nation that will be the happiest place for every Ghanaian. Of brainpower, talent and energy, the good Lord has endowed you, what is required for which we must press for is the State's responsibility to provide opportunity and affordable capital for all."

Mr Bomfeh said the CPP acknowledged that Ghana was passing through an important and exciting phase in the nation's history not only in deepening the democratic credentials, but also in the struggle for economic freedom devoid of any political and social interference. On the CPP's preparation towards winning Election 2008, Mr. Bomfeh noted that the party considered winning the Presidential and majority parliamentary seats as a greater challenge for the party, but noted that the new executives are capable of leading the party to attain that and liberate the nation once again.

He said the CPP also view the role of political stakeholders, including the Government, Electoral Commission, various political parties and the donor community in general as vital to ensure that the general elections were free, fair and transparent.

"This calls for stronger, good character, great moral courage, humility, hardworking, polite, responsiveness, reliability and honesty from the rank and file of the great CPP especially the youth," Mr Bomfeh stated.

The Youth Organiser urged the youth wing of the party to appreciate the magnitude of task ahead for total victory in the general elections. "As a revolutionary people, with a revolutionary party, working at a revolutionary tempo and with faith in the revolution, we can move mountains. But that requires great discipline, determination and strict adherence to the core values of our great Party.

"It is never easy to determine in a party like ours that has been through tribulations since 1966, burdened with the remnants of reactionary indoctrinations and contradictions, how many secret enemies and hidden agents are operating from our midst.

"We are better off if we can trust one another rather than live in an atmosphere of mutual suspicion. Yet unless we exercise the utmost vigilance and mete out the heaviest punishment for treachery and indiscipline our revolution is always in danger of being undermined.

"Go forward and march together, in unity and strength, as one people, with one destiny, in one nation. In all things remember that our great Party - the Convention Peoples' Party - stand behind as the bulwark of your endeavours," Mr Bomfeh stated.
