The president of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede has challenged Ghanaians to maintain the prevailing peace in Ghana before, during and after Wednesday’s general elections.

This, according to him, is essential to the sustenance of the country’s progress and development.

Addressing journalists ahead of the polls, he said ensuring peace “before, during and after” the elections is the responsibilities of every Ghanaian, including the security services.

“This is the time as leaders to make a difference. We have to use this time properly in the interest of country, in the interest of our unity and in the interest of our development,” he stated.

He urged the Electoral Commission (EC) and stakeholders in the elections to also conduct themselves properly to ensure that the outcome of the elections is accepted by all.

The election is slated for December 7 and it is a straight fight between incumbent John Mahama and opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo.
