In a historic move, the Electoral Commission (EC) has introduced a toll-free number, 0800-324-324, for citizens to report any voting-related issues.

The commission assured the public that dedicated officials are on standby to address concerns promptly.

Earlier this morning, during its first election press conference, the EC confirmed that all election materials had been deployed to polling stations ahead of the election, with all officials present. They also revealed that all BVD machines at polling stations are functioning properly.

The 2024 general elections are currently underway across 276 constituencies in the country, with 18.8 million people expected to vote.

This year’s election features thirteen presidential candidates, nine of whom represent political parties and four are independent candidates.

Of the 18.8 million voters, 459,291 (4%) represent the voter population. The electorate is evenly split, with 48% male voters and 52% female voters. Youth participation is significant, as they make up 55% of the voter population.

A total of 40,976 polling centres will be used for the 2024 elections, with 328 already utilised for the Special Voting exercises on December 2 and 5, 2024.

According to data from CODEO, the largest CSO monitoring the elections, 801 parliamentary candidates are vying for 276 seats, with 111 of them running as independents.
