Aburukutuoso (Ash), Aug 13, GNA - Mr Victor Ampofo, an aspiring assembly member for Aburukutuoso Electoral Area in Asante-Mampong, has appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to step up awareness creation on the forthcoming district assembly elections.
He said the district assembly and unit committee concept were very important structures for the success of the country's decentralisation process and therefore deserved the needed attention. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed regret that much was not done by these state agencies to create more awareness on the September polls as was done in previous elections. The 54-year-old trader indicated that he was compelled to contest for the Aburukutuoso electoral area because of the slow pace of development in the area.
His plans for the electoral area when voted into power include, lobbying for a community market, reactivating the spirit of communal labour, provision of streetlights to reduce crime and monitoring the judicious use of the community's share of capitation grant. Mr Ampofo said he would pay high priority to education when elected by encouraging parents and guardians to ensure that they enrolled their children in school.
"For me, education is the most important investment for any community and I would therefore work with the landlords and members of the unit committees to make sure we develop schools in the electoral area", he said.
Mr Ampofo alias "Osofo", thus urged the electorate to vote massively for him in the elections, pledging that he would not fail them.
