Electorate urged not to repeat mistakes of 2000 elections

Tamale, Nov. 17, GNA - Mr Albert Atutiga, a leading member of the Convention People's Party (CPP) on Tuesday advised the electorate not to repeat the mistakes of the 2000 Presidential and Parliamentary elections and vote for the NPP to further worsen the economic situation.

He said the decision by the minority parties to support the NPP during the run-off to unseat the NDC " was a terrible mistake, which we rushed to push the country into a negative change" and called on the electorate to just say no to the NPP and vote massively for the CPP.

Mr Atutiga said this, during a meeting with CPP youths and some elders of the party in Tamale.

The purpose of the meeting was to see how best the regional wing of the party including the youth could put their heads together towards unseating the NPP government in the December polls to give way to the CPP to rule the country.

Mr Atutiga said during the 2000 elections, before the run-off, the CPP told Ghanaians that the country's economic situation was going to be worsen if the electorate failed to vote for the CPP to win power and to implement the ideas of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He told the gathering that " it would be a disaster if the NPP wins power the second time" adding, " you have seen that the NDC and the NPP have failed the country so try the CPP for you would never regret you did".

Mr Atutiga, who is the immediate past Northern regional chairman of the party said the CPP would continue to package truth to the people but not to repackage the same old lies as some politicians were using for the sake of votes.

He appealed to them to learn to be foot soldiers and go deep to the interior and let the people know that "NPP is not just a party to vote for, since the party had no interest in the poor and ordinary Ghanaian". He also called on all the parties to package their campaign messages in a humane way so that there would be no conflict between the people for peace and violent free elections to prevail in Dagbon.
