Tarkwa, 22, GNA - Eleven people have died from suspected fish poisoning at Tumantu located on the bank of River Ankobra in the Nzema East District within a period of four days.
The deaths occurred between January 17 and Saturday, January 20. Mr Moses Kpebu, Acting Tarkwa District Programme Officer of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), told Ghana News Agency in an interview that an EPA team had visited the town and interacted with the people.
They told the EPA team that people picked dead fishes from River Ankobra and consumed them after which they complained of stomachache. Mr John Abugri, the Nzema East District Environmental Health Officer, said the deaths could be attributed to water contamination or bacterial disease. 22 Jan 07
