Elimina chiefs commend Government

Accra, June 13, GNA - A delegation of chiefs from Elimina in the Central Region on Friday called on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, to express their appreciation for the government's development interventions that are impacting positively on the lives of the people in the area.

They mentioned, among these, the elevation of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem district into a municipality, dredging of the Elimina Lagoon and the building of Edinaman Senior High School into a model High School.

Nana Kwadwo Conduah IV, the Omanhene of the Traditional Area, led the delegation.

He used the occasion to extend an official invitation to President Kufuor to attend the celebration of this year's Bakatue Festival by the chiefs and people of the area to be held in the first week of July, under the theme: "Buy made in Ghana Goods." The festival coincides with the 10th anniversary of Nana Conduah's installation.

The Omanhene said one major landmark activity of this year's Bakatue would be the re-building of their palace burnt in the 14th Century by the Europeans.

President Kufuor noted that Elimina had a lot of history behind it and that it befitted the status of a municipality. He welcomed the decision by the Omanhene to re-construct the Chief's palace.

President Kufuor said he was confident that the festival would serve as an important tourist attraction event.
