Emergency Response Now Set

Thirty personnel of the Military Hospital have undergone two weeks training in emergency ambulance operation with French government sponsorship.

At a closing ceremony at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Friday, Col. J.M Ayettey, the Commanding Officer expressed gratitude to the French government for helping the Ghanaian Military acquire useful training in both theory and practical emergency skills.

He said in February this year, the French government presented three ambulances to the Emergency Response Unit and followed up by bringing in six experts in emergency ambulance operation to train their Ghanaian counterparts.

He appealed to the French government to bring in more ambulances because "the military personnel are now confident in its operation through the training".

The French Ambassador, Mr. Jean-Michel Berrit said, after the stadium disaster and the 2001 floods it was noticed that better trained emergency aid teams with modern equipment at their disposal would have been able to many lives. The French government therefore decided to help in this direction.

He expressed the hope that the training had given the hospital staff more skills to save lives during emergencies.

He expressed his thanks to the management team of the 37 Hospital for its efficiency in organising the training.

Mr. Berrit presented certificates to the personnel.
