The Parliamentary Minority Caucus has expressed its discontent with the recent urgent recall of the House, characterizing it as both needless and an unwarranted use of funds.

This opinion was expressed by Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who criticized the recall and said it was an unnecessary use of public funds, particularly in light of the session's limited results.

Over the course of two days, 11 issues on the agenda were discussed during the parliamentary recall. Only two of these topics were discussed during the meeting at the Accra Conference Center, though.

Dr. Forson noted that the small number of topics covered in the talks and the scant outcomes obtained during the recall did not warrant the expenses and resources used to bring Members of Parliament back to the House.

“Mr. Speaker, I want to say that there was no way the business we have done so far should have warranted such a recall. We were recalled to tackle tax exemptions and loans. Right Honourable Speaker, one of it [the loans] has been approved.

“Mr. Speaker, our concern remains with the tax assumptions. We strongly believe that these giveaways should be curtailed. We strongly believe that these giveaways of tax exemptions are unwarranted," a report by citinewsroom.com said.

Dr. Forson added: “We believe that at a time that the country is bleeding, Ghana should not be giving such giveaways to crony businesses.”
